Default Quad Shocks

Rear Quad shocks.... Should I leave 'em there or take 'em off? I heard that you get better traction with them off.?

Nope, leave them in there unless you've got a good set of Upper and lower CA's or you will have wheel hop when you launch! Other than that, they will not affect everyday driving.

I ask because i just bought some GMS Heavy walled tubing uppers and lowers and the instructions say it is highly recommended to take them off. and i was thinking that it will allow more room for when I get my 315/35 tires on the car.

315's and control arms...take them off. With them on or off, it wont make a difference anyways.

im pretty sure that you can have both 315s and LCA/UCAs with no rubbing. I wouldnt take them off. They do serve a purpose.

I've had 315's and control arms. It doesn't rub. I on the other hand, have to take them off b/c they hit my coilovers (still haven't put them on yet)

Cool thanks for all of your input. I think I will just have to find out if it will rub or not, if so I'll just have to take them off. By the way hopefully Thursday or Friday I will be ordering my new rims.

what brand tires are you running?

i've had 315's with upper and lower control arms for months and have had no rubbing on the quad shocks which are still in place.

i've ran sumitomos and bfg drags (all 315's) with no rubbing on the quad shocks.

Quad shocks ONLY purpose in life is to control wheel hop. Once you upgrade to aftermarket LCA's, they are nothing more than added weight. Notice how I said LCA's not UCA's and LCA's since the lowers are the weaker of the two. So, swap the lowers and lose the quads.

is that your final answer?

i always figured it wouldnt hurt to leave em on because i didnt know if they played any other roles besides wheel hop but if thats the only thing they're good for and i already have lca's and uca's im probably gonna take em off next time im under the car..

Yup, final answer.
No other 4 link rear suspension car has quad shocks. I have been told that the Ford factory 4 link config (T-Bird, Cougar, Mustang) are very weak by design and an upgrade to either a 3 link setup with panhard bar or upgraded control arms is the only way to fix it.
