If I get the 4.10 can I take 5th gear all the way to redline? Or does it bog down like it does with stock gearing?

I love finding out things are already done to a car that I didn't know about when I bought it!

Yeh, get it. If nothing else its extra insurance, and might save you money getting it the first time.

Lances03SVT 02-16-2006 03:15 PM

Yes with that many miles.Better to be safe than sorry.

GT4DUMMIES 03-02-2006 08:58 PM

no question - replace the bearings and the races

jeredan2003 03-05-2006 09:07 PM

You cant just slap some gears in you need to adjust the Backlash too so it doesnt whine.

373 or 410 GEARS???

I know that the 410's are supposed to be good 1/4 mile gear, but I want something that will give me really nice pull off the line and midrange, but ISNT GOING TO murder my car in gas.. I drive my mustang 86 miles a day back and forth to work... With gas prices at 2.57 a gallon for regular.. I kinda want something taht will no be so much worse them my stock gears... I average between 230 - 260 miles on a ful tank as it is.... Any ideas on witch gears to get.

Most people will tell you to go with 3.73s for v6s, 4.10s for 2v v8s, and 4.30s for 4v v8s. This is usually recommended for all Naturally Aspired engines, and even for the Forced Inductioned 03-04 Cobras.

Is there a different or "specific" Gear Ratio to be applied to the new 3v V8's, or would they most likely fall into one those already mentioned? If so, which one?

the 3v's breathe very well up in the higher rpm range. i'd say 4.10's

4.10's will not murder your car on gas... you will get maybe a couple mpg less than before...

What's the deal with this? I thought putting the recalibration gears would solve this. I don't really have the money for a tuner or speedcal these days.

herndy_1 05-12-2006 08:10 AM

Where do you get the bearing kits? and how much?

The Interceptor 05-15-2006 10:04 PM

Sorry if this is the wrong thread for this but I was calling shops in the California Bay Area, and most shops want $450-$900 too install the 4.10 gears in my '03! Yeah, $900 and that was just for installation, not including price of gears and fluid. Anyone recommend a shop that will do it out here in the $200 or less range. $450+ is :censored: crazy IMO!

4.10 gear install for 05 GT

I was quoted $500 for the 4.10 gears, install labor and Royal Purple gear lube. That also includes tax and shipping. Is this a good deal???

spike_africa 07-11-2006 10:08 AM

Thats a fine deal.

4.10 gear install for 05 GT

Thanks! Just wanted another opinion.

jstn0127 07-11-2006 05:19 PM

I got 4.10's and the master bearing kit from Brenspeed.com for around 200 shipped.

Saleen S330 07-20-2006 01:23 PM

Anything over 300 for a gear install is a rip off. I've had mine done no more than 200 bucks at 2 known performance shops.

triggertap79 10-13-2006 09:10 AM

I have a question for the threadstarter. Why did you get 3.90's if everyone on here is raving about the 4.10's? You seem to know alot about gears so I was just curious as to why you went with that gear selection.

I am sort of on the fence about which gear to get for my 02 GT. This car is a daily driver that I plan on running at the track every once in awhile. My goals are to get it into the low 13's but I still want it to be comfortable to drive everyday around town and on the freeway. Thanks for any info.

Dude, I hear ya.....That's exactly why I haven't had gears installed. Watch Apex in Santa Clara cause sometimes they have specials for a pretty good price. I think a while back they had one for like $400, which included the gears and labor....I was an idiot and missed out on it.

phil_the_thrill 11-09-2006 12:15 PM

alright, those of you with 4.10s, what is your gas mileage on the highway. i did some math on it and came up with a little over 19mpg. i'm not sure if this is actually what it will be its just theoretical. so how many miles per gallon do you guys get on the highway?

bassman97 11-09-2006 12:55 PM

I don't have 4.10 rear gears (I got the stock 3.27) but since I can get 30 mpg on the highway doing 80, I don't think your mileage can any worse than 25 mpg (assuming you do all highway miles on that tank).
