What would be the best bang for buck mod for the automatic transmission?

Jmod, torque converter, cooler, etc? and what do they all do?

ive always kida wondered these things myself....also i dont want to impeade but i have the predator and i was wondering where i should put my shift points at???? im an auto

Most of the time the stock shift points are dead on. Now after major mods you might have to tweak them so you don't bounce off the rev limiter when at WOT. But that's all up to an individual car and it's mods.


As far as tranny mods. Torque Converter can net you a loss of .5 second in your 1/4 time. J-mod or a new valve body will help but bang for the buck Torque converter and tranny cooler an aftermarket converter usually results in slightly higher trans. temps.

Jmod-
Is free if you know where and what to drill...and the cost of fluid...Firmer shifts

torque converter-
Allows the transfer of power to the rear wheel to be greater...IMO this is probably one of the best things to do.....depends on what your looking for application wise a torque converter can cost up to $800 sometimes

Tranny Cooler-
You should have one anyways.....if your fluid gets to hot it can eat away your seals and damage the tranny itself....its fairly cheap $50 at the most.

-Tune
Can firm up your shifts and change the shift points for the better...can vary in price depends on what way you go with.

Shift kit-
Just do the J mod its basically the same thing and sometimes can cause problems

Pretty much just what everyone else said. Converters are a very controversial issue, for those of you who are members on MD you know what Im talking about. Im not going to get into detail about what they do because there are too many variables. However, I can tell you that I have a 3500 stall PI multi disk and it doesnt affect my daily driving. I recommend going to http://www.bc-automotive.com/ and talking to those guys about what converter is best for you. The j mod is the best and only "shift kit" you or anyone else should do. Its also the best valve body wise. Most aftermarket valve bodies have fixed line pressure which isnt exactly good for the tranny. Tranny cooler is a must either way.

Sweet, do a wright up on it like you did with the nitrous install, that would be very helpful

I have a 3500 stall convertor, tranny cooler and modified valve body. They work well but the most important item is a real good tune. Your car will not know when to shift if you have swapped gears. Mine consistantly shifted short and I ran faster shifting manually until I got the tune sorted out. The other item is the convertor locking up in second and third. Mine was very slow to lock and I had to have it adjusted via the tune.

The tranny cooler is the most important mod you should do to any auto car, if you drive hard,tow etc.. and want your tranny to last you need to add a large tranny cooler or it will heat the fluide and cook your tranny seals which will cause tons of other problems and damage.

A full synthetic tranny fluid will make your tranny last much longer. The chemist at work is making me some that meets all Ford and MERCON V specs and has some extra additives thats stable to 250C..

doesnt change the fact that the seals will be cooked at that high temp which will also over heat parts and cause damage, you really need a cooler on any auto thats driven hard etc...
