2005 Mustang GT Electrical Problem

I don't drive my mustang very often, only once or twice a month. In February I tried to take it for a drive and the battery was completely dead. I had it jumped and noticed the tail lights were staying on even when the car was turned off. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the tail light switch and gave me a new battery. Today, I wanted to take it for a ride and the battery was completely dead again. Has anyone else with an 05 mustang GT been experiencing this problem? It seems as though there is something in the electrical system draining the battery. I only have 500 miles on the car and it is a manual transmission. Today was a beautiful day, and it sucks when you want to go for a drive and you can not get it started.

Dealer said I have to start the car every three days

I called and spoke with a mechanic who said the car can not sit, and needs to be started every three days or the battery will go dead. And, I need to get a trickle battery charger if I am going to let it sit.

No, the tail lights were not on again. No lights, no horn, nothing. When I tried to jump start it with cables (I connected them correctly), it sparked and the horn blew when I attached the ground. The mechanic said it is the car "coming alive again." I did not even try to start it once it sparked. I was afraid. I guess I need to take it to the dealer again. I have a Chevy Silverado which I let sit for months on end and it always starts right up.

Bummer.

You have to start your car to keep that battery charged. You are only shortening the life of the battery by letting it sit and then trying to run it. Start your car once a week and you wont see the problems.

Problems with my battery going dead

You say if I start the car once a week I should be fine. When I get the battery charged again this time, do I need to get anything done or will all the programming of the car kick in correctly. Thank you very much.

you need to find a NEW & better mechinex. take it back to the dealer, there is a TSB on this and I believe the fix is a new (and improved) brake lite switch.

They did replace the brake light switch the first time this happend. The mechanic is at the ford dealer. The brake light does not stay on anymore, but the battery still is dead from it sitting. I appreciate your response and advice. It is still sitting there with a dead battery.

I just spoke to some other club members today that were talking about this same issue. One has a 06 with the Shaker 1000 and supposedly the amps somehow drain the battery even when not in use:confused:. I know the Ford computer sends a weak signal to different places when the car is off(had a issue with my alarm going off because of this) and Im guessing its related in some way. According to them its pretty common among the Shaker 1000 owners. This paticular one doesnt get drove much either and she came out to a dead battery a couple times after it sat a week or so.

WOW - You are good!!

I do have a Shaker 1000. I had someone come out and jump start the car yesterday and I drove it for about an hour. Today I am going to see if it starts. When it started for the first time, there was smoke coming out of the exhaust pipes, but that may be normal. I appreciate this board and getting some advice. It makes it a little easier when you spend so much on a car and it does not start when you want to drive it.

Not totally sure of the Shaker wiring but after thinking about it, Im thinking possibly there is enough signal from the computer to keep the remote turnons to the amps energized and keeping the amps at "idle" slowly draining the battery. Best guess I can come up with. Hopefully Ford gets enough complaints to do something about it.

Anywhere Else on this Board?

Hello. Do you know if the problem with the Shaker 1000 stereo running down the battery when the car sits a few days is posted anywhere else on this board? We were starting the car every two days and it would start, now we missed a couple days and it is DEAD again. What a pain in the a__!!!

Turns out my therory was correct if what I was told was true. Found out from another club member a few days ago that someone they knew with this problem put a relay inline with the remote turnon lead to the amps and the problem went away.

Stupid BEAUTIFUL Car

My car is so pretty. I should bring it in the house and use it for an ornament since it won't ever start when I try to drive it.

Thank you for the replies.
