Dyno Tuned the v6

Thursday I took the car to the dyno, finally. Unfortunately, theres a major issue. The car made 153 RWHP N/A
So I'm missing something like 80-100+ RWHP we're thinking the IMRCs are stuck in the closed position, especially considering I had already bent some of the flanges when I broke the piston. Attachment 17759 And as you can see, the torque just dies..so monday.. time to pull apart the motor to the lower intake, permanently stick the IMRCs open (easier then pulling the lower, deleting them, and putting it back together) Hopefully we'll get this issue fixed relatively quicky. |

153 is wayy less than stock, so def somethings up.. i hate when retarted things like that go wrong... i hope that fixes the problem! i want to see some real numbers!

Yea, we'll find the problem.. but it looks like its not getting enough air somewhere..
The torque should be building at 4 thousand RPMs..not dropping..so theres something wrong completely.. |
Thats sucks man. I can't wait to see what it makes once the problems are worked out. What are your cam specs?

218/224 I the duration and lift are like .530 or something, I don't remember right off hand, the cam sheet is at the shop.. car is sitting back down there..
Gonna do a compression test, pin the IMRCs open somehow, and run a few other tests.. wondering if my fuel solenoid is sticking open now as well, and could result in a small issue. We're double checking everything we can except for pulling the motor apart for now. If we can't find out whats up with the car after this, then I'll have them tear it down again, and go at it once more..if that doesn't work, I'll scrap it. The parts alone could probably get me a GT, lol. |
whatever you do dont scrap it!! You have gone this far to making a monster just take it the rest of the way

Well even with the IMRCs stuck closed, and the timing curve off some I think...I really doubt I'll pick up that horsepower I was missing. hey, if i break into the low 12s, fine. I'll drive the car for a year, hand it over to my wife, and go find a GT, build the motor, do the same work, transmission, rear, suspension, ect, and throw a turbo on it.
I have a buddy whos offered me his for 11 grand... turbo, tranny, rear, suspension, ect, all i'd have to do is build the motor to hold 15lbs of boost. hes already running low 11s.. On the bottle the car goes apeshit..I've got nittos drag radials on...i broke through 1st 2nd and 3rd tonight..just screaming.. We'll see what happens with radials and a 100 shot. if i like what i see, i'll throw better tires on it, and up the shot and re-dyno for a 150.. but yes, a GT is in the near future. MUCH easier to make haul ass, and I'm over being different now. lol. |

I would check the cam timing as well as the IMRC's.

IMRC issue was resolved. Cam timing should be fine. I really think it just wasn't getting enough air. Sure, the car on a 100 shot, or a 150 shot will still run 12s..but..its not the 11s like how I wanted. It'd take me a set of badass heads, windstar intake, a meaner cam, and a turbo to run 11s I think. I just don't think it'll happen.
I'll have a 12 second v6 (hopefully) but I won't have the v6 that can run 11s on the bottle, which may be a very good reason why guys didn't go that route. But, screw it, I gave it one hell of a shot, its a great built motor, great transmission, and a great rear end.. Just isn't what I'm wanting out of the car. I'll go get myself a GT next, and make it scary. |

12's can be had on a sprayed 3.8, some good suspension, and some sticky tires. Did you loose interest in the v6 with the problems your having with it? Can run into these problems with any build, don't give up man.

You should totally continue on the v6 build. Its not like we all havent been waiting extremely fucking impatiently to see what it can do when its finished. ......IT GIVES ME HOPE.....that one day when I come across about 10 grand, I too can build a raw nasty sixxer. |

A turbo, I could easily run 11s. I left things out on this motor that may have really helped me. I kept the stock heads, I should've went ahead and got the set of badass heads SSM offered me for cheap. Swapped the rockers ect. Never did. Longtubes, xpipe, and a manual. There would be the power I was wanting. And btw, any idea much a nice suspension setup for the track is? I do. I spent about 3 grand, and still don't have a K member, due to having to swap A-Arms, ect. Any idea how much a set of really nice slicks and skinnies brand new is? I mean good set, not cheapo stuff. I do. Ran me over $500 for just the rear set of wheels and M&H slicks. 10 grand? I spent damned near 20. I wanted to stay bottlefed, and when I figured out it wasn't gonna happen, I looked for a turbo. As far as I know - TMA no longer sells the turbo kit. I'm not going to lie, I love this car, I love the fact that a GT can pull up next to me, and if I launch off the bottle the front tires just trying to pull off the ground as hard as they do will scare the piss outta him. Find me a GT with a stock motor that'll launch on slicks and skinnies at the track on a 150 shot and won't break. I can do that. I spent a shitload though. I'll stand by it - I've built a badass v6. But this game is about who has the most money. My next goal is to build a GT that I can drive daily, and run 10s on when I up the boost. Its attainable, probably more so then a v6 that'll run 11s. Friday is the trial for this car. If I break 13s on a 100shot and drag radials, I know I can probably break 12s on slicks and skinnies. If I up the shot to a 150 on slicks and skinnies, I may actually see 11s. I don't know yet. We'll have to see what exactly happens. If I run high 13s on a 100 shot with a 4.3 stroker, great suspension, great transmission, and a awesome rearend, well, then, fuck it. |
Oh and you know what I'll do if I run 12s right? Boot myself in the hernia for giving up.
