Cones Beware
|
I went to an 1/8th mile track today. This was my first drag strip trip with the GT. It was a pretty back-woods operation from what I'm used to, but the people were good and there were only about 20 cars that were racing. There were some very stereotypical redneck people though, lol, lots of trucks and busted-up camaros racing. Here are the stats from my best run:
Remember this is 1/8th mile. Help me figure out if these are good times or not. I put them into a 1/8th mile to 1/4 mile calculator and they all said my 1/4 E/T should be 12.3~ which I know isn't correct. R/T .346 60' 2.176 E/T 7.871 miles per hour 75.80 All the runs were without doing a burnout, wasn't enough room for me to feel comfortable to do one (you shoulda saw this place). Rear psi was ~35.5. I had traction problems but since I was on my 18" with lo-pros I wasn't really trying to get great hook-up.

Ok, I've been reading some of the other drag racing threads where people have posted thier times. My 1/8th mile E/T seems really fast but with a low miles per hour. I would think something is wrong with the timing but 5 out of my 7 runs were within 7.871-8.258 I missed 2nd on my first run becuase my shifter handle wasn't tightened down enough from when I installed the shifter last weekend, and I missed 3rd on another run.

Looks to me like the timing equipment is off. To cut a 2.1 60' and still have a 7.8e/t is something of a miracle for a minimal modded GT.
Try lowering PSI ALOT in the rears or buying some DR's. That will help lower your 60'. Get to a real track to. There is no comparison when you race at a legit track with the right track prep and everything. Its an amazing feeling and you prolly wont go back to hillbilly land

Thats what I have started thinking also after looking at other people's time slips, it doesn't add up. Well, I guess it ended up being a wasted trip since I was wanting some 1/8th mile times so I could guess my 1/4. Whatever my true time is, there is tons of room for me to improve. I wasn't even trying to get a good 60' which I know can tell the tale of a run. In future trips to the dragsrtip I will do all the stuff like lower pressure, take off sway bar etc.

Track could be a little short. At the 1/8th mile track where my parents live it is about 60' short. I run 7.3's there. At a full length well established track I run 8.9's 9.0's in a 1/8th. Turns out to be 13.9's 14.0's in the 1/4.
