Dangerous Launching?

I have a new 3800 stall converter. Would launching at 2500-3000 be dangerous? Only thing done to the rear end is 4.10 gears w/t-lock. Ill be on 275 sumi's so i wont have 'perfect' traction but decent. How high of a launch would you recommend?

With an auto you don't shock the drivetrain when you launch because of that you can flash that converter as high as it will go. But with street tires its just going ot spin so dont worry you wont break your rear end. Even with drag radials you would be fine as like i said it doesn't shock the drivetrain like dropping a clutch does.

This also goes in drag tech section,moving..

if you brake stall it there is no chance it will break. if you brake stall it than you will be lucky to get 3k rpms, i barely get 2500 with my 3200 stall. even if you flash the converter you will still not break the rear because your on street tires.

so what if i had drag radials, what would be a safe number to launch at? What if i had slicks?

i wouldnt suggest racing on street tires, i went last week on my 295/35/18's, i also have a 3800 stall and flashed the converter from idle and spun like crazy thru-out the entire track.., 2.3 - 60'ft...14.6 @ 97...i didnt run drag radials since i was lazy to install em, but i just ran to see if my MPH went up since i got a new tune for the converter....2nd run i feathered the throttle...took off like if i was taking off at a street light and punched it as soon as i was rolling....2.0 - 60', 14.2 @ 99....not the greatest but my MPH improved from the time i ran with drag radials(13.7 @ 95)....so hopefully now i can run 101-102 on drag radials the next time out.

you have a cam? I have vt stage 2 cams that will be in with the converter as soon as i get back home.

ShapeShifter 09-21-2007 11:10 PM

no.....but whats that got to do with running on street tires, more power in your case is gonna make you spin even more....

mpt_1962 09-22-2007 04:02 AM

so i dont have to worry about stressing the rear end until i get slicks on the rear?

spike_africa 09-22-2007 06:47 AM

You dont need to worry in general as you have an auto your not likly to break the rear end even with sticky tires.

oh cool thanks guys, im going to see how high i can launch with the new converter.(traction permitting)

You don't launch and auto with a converter. You just punch it.
