Street/Strip Traction

I swear traction on the street is much better than the strip. is this false?

i completely agree... street tires are better on the street for a few reasons..

when you are at a track.. usually there is water on the pavement somewhere, and without slicks... you really cant do a burnout to heat up the tires.. so you end up spinning street radials

plus... the track is slick with oil and such.. track prep is key

My 60' times suck cause of wheel spin. im averaging 2.2 60' times

the reason the street is better on street tires is because the drag strip is smooth concret where as the roads are jagged pavment. run your had over the track surface then the street you will see why the street is gripyer.

I'm not sure what your streets are like, but I can't get traction...period. I have ran tires from 255/60/16 all the way up to 295/50/15's and have always had a hell of a time with traction. The strip has bite for any kind of tire, thats if you know what your doing. If you ever go to the track and see some one do a burnout with a street tire, thats somebody who doesn't know what they are doing. A true street tire brings the oils in it to the surface of the tire as it spins and gets hotter, making it more greasy and spin even more (less traction). If you run street tires at the track, just rotate them once to get rocks and debris off them. Drag radials are a whole different thread.
