Me v.s. 01 cobra
 

alright so today at school some punk kid comes up and starts talkin s*** about my car saying that he blow away my GT with his car. We went out to the parking lot and he showed me his STOCK 01 svt cobra. This thing is 100% stock not one thing done to it and a few people told me that he blows 3rd gear half the times he races. So what should I do?? With my mods (see my sig) and a brand new slp x-pipe and pullies will I be able to keep up with him?

Dont launch too hard and you will beat him! Common high school kid mistake is wanting to launch their brand new mustang at a high rpm so they can do a smoke show taking off. Just make sure your tire pressure is lowered down some and not at like 40psi, you shouldn't spin as much. If he's pretty cocky, all you need to do is out drive him and you'll win.....garuntee he's real cocky since he's got a cobra and he's young! Local kid here has a '04 cobra....he's 16 and real cocky, any way he lost to a STOCK gt!!! Jus out drive him and be calm.

if you both suck or are good at driving, hes gonna walk you. youve got mabye 5hp over stock if you are lucky.

What is this stuff with the pretend internet racing? Do you guys think I can beat him....

I see this type of post all the time and its dumb I think. If you dont want to lose then dont race but if you want the chance to win then run em and make him look dumb or lose....its just that easy. What is there to be afraid of? Its a car and its not the fastest thing out there so have fun with it. THis isnt drag racing and shouldnt be in a drag racing forum......

You'll find out in the end his completely stock car has more HP than your modded one does right off the bat. Can he drive it.....GO FIND OUT

it's all in the negotiation. he's in a cobra, you're in a GT so take him from a standing start. He'll try to spin the tires and wheel hop like a madman which gives you almost another full second of showing him your tail lights before he can start catching up and passing you.

I have a pretty quick (thanks to being really light) car in my 03gt and I can just keep up with 99 cobras, 01's are a little faster and they just slowly walk away from me from a roll. I can take either off the line and down the track for a few hundred feet but they have sick high redlines and don't have to shift as often so they always catch up. Stick a 75 shot of nitrous on it, then race him if all you want to do is assure yourself of victory.

I find it more satisfying to just race and know that even if I lose, it was fun to do.

no i understand what you guys are saying. I know he has more HP, but I was just seeing what all your views on it were. Id rather have as much information going into the race then going in blind. and as far as what AREA 51 said, its not just a race because i have 2 tickets already so i would be killed if I got caught, and plus pretty much the whole school wants to come so I dont want to look like an idiot. I prolly will just drop a 75 or 100 and just spray the sh** outta him but you never know he could be trying to do the same thing..

Yes, get some spray and beat him! It sounds like this kid has the "Cobra's can neva lose" attitude. The look on his face will be priceless if you beat him.

just got an older friend to hook me up for the weekend with a 75 shot... race is saturday so ill let all you guys know!

So is it safe just to "throw" a 75 shot in the car without having it tuned or anything?

So heres the other question...if he asked if you sprayed are you going to tell him?

75 isn't "safe" to toss at it but you can do it on the stock tune with stock injectors as long as you do it dry and it's almost always just fine. It should be no problem as long as he's not chipped (change the plugs to copper first too).

I'd say, if you spray and he asks, then you have to cop to it. Don't lie, just tell him he got spanked fair and square in a run-what-ya-brung race. If he has spray and wants to use it next time, let him and he'll eat your lunch that time and all will be fine.

I dont know what happened but they walk around acting like they are more than they are and here we are looking at another one who must have talked his car up to be the baddest thing ever cause he wont run it just heads up run what you brung. Nitrous isnt cheating but the way you are using it is.

If the whole school is going to watch I wouldn't race him if you can't afford another ticket..but thats just my opinion.

is there a track somewhere you two can go to battle it out? That would be the best way to do it....then you don't have to worry about tickets.

Just go out and race him. You can't always sit there and figure out well can I beat him or can't I. You just have to do it. I saw jjtgiants driving one day and if there wasn't traffic I would have raced him even knowing I would have gotten my ass handed to me. I race my friend in his 97 supra all the time. Just do it and you might be surprised with the results.

I'm still running my 80-shot on stock tune and the stock Motorcraft platinum plugs lol.....hasnt effected anything YET.

I wouldnt tell the guy anything if your gonna spray him, just beat him and leave it at that. If he asks you to pop your....tell him no then maybe a few days later after you dont have the nitrous on there pop the hood and show him. Let him wonder for a little while why he lost...but dont tell other people what your planning on doing. I get guys all the time who lose to me and cant figureout why a "Stock" gt spanked their modded gt by about 7 or 8 cars.

I normally go and race cars that i don't know if I can beat them, That my friends is racing, what is the point in racing if you only race people that you know you can beat. See the adrenaline you get when racing him and not knowing before hand will put even a bigger smile on your face. what do you have to loose. A faster opponent is the best race ever:nomore:

I see it as lots of fun racing others not knowing whats done to them or how fast they really are. I ran an old notchback stang on ET drag's, All i knew was it was a N/A stang with ALOT of work and a good tire. everyone told me it runs mid 7's 1/8 mile....i lined up with him anyway and beat him on a street tire and less mods....it was such a joy too.
