Best Way To Launch A GT

Hey, this is a question for everyone who drag races their GT's or pretty much anyone who races period. I want to be able to kill cars off a traffic light. What RPM should i drop the clutch at to get the best take-off? Also, should i take traction control off? I heard it can take power away from the wheels.

Turn off traction control for sure... Thats the first thing I do every time I start my car...lol I dont dump the clutch as it usually results in spin, I slip the clutch and try to use it to control wheelspin. With 4.10's and Nitto's I can get a good jump on many quicker cars on the street..

Youll want to slip/feather the clutch. Your best bet would be to go out and test it for yourself. Id start around 2500 and move up from there.

on the street with street tires i would slip it out at 2,700rpms and let her rip with traction ocntrol off.

on the street it wont stick enough to break. :hello2:

traction control = the devil

i dump the clutch at about 3k when i wanna slide out (do a crappy burnout because I dunno how to do a good one :() so I wouldn't recommend that for launching

SilverSteed03 04-13-2005 07:00 AM

When you say slip/feather the clutch, does that mean let it out good and slow, take the clutch off like you normally would, or just dump it altogether?

dannyb785 04-13-2005 08:11 AM

its means slowly let it out, but use good judgement on how quickly. As posted above, just take a good 10-20 min on a back road w/ no traffic and launch a few times. Good tires are key to a good launch, bc i can have a good launch but then once i get going and gas it in 1st, my tires still break loose even as I'm going 10-15 mph = not good

stealth stang 90 04-14-2005 09:44 PM

i slip the clutch out as fast as possible while easing into the gas so the tires dont spin and so the engine dosent bog you just have to practice but dont slip it out to slow and fry the clutch The key is to get the clutch out as fast as posible while not letting the engine bog or spinning the tires and no traction control It will kill your performance when you shift I saw 2 02 gts racing one with traction control on and they grabed 2nd and the one with traction control fel back a full car length just on the shift It looked like he missed a gear

6300 rpm, slicks, drop the clutch.

of course you need 31-33 spline axles, rear diff or spool, LCA/UCA, and a good clutch.

Keys to a good burnout.

Put car in 2nd gear. Rev up to about 4000-5000. Drop the clutch and slam your left foot on the brake. Give gas as needed to sustain with right foot.

Find a deserted road and go practice :)

depends on what tire you have, regular radials need to be feathered, same with nittos but can be a little more aggresive. with my et streets if i have been driving around for awhile and the tires are warm, 4-5K and sidestep the clutch.. Same goes with my 315/35 BFG dragradials, if they are warm they will stick...

almost the same but for mine put foot on brake, turn line lock on, release foot from brake, put in second gear, rev to about 3k drop clutch, keep rpms about 4500 rpm until tires start to haze and then at the same time, release line lock and push in clutch, tires will grab and now they are ready to launch..

line-lock = cheating :evil6:

If you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'....

SilverSteed03 05-04-2005 08:12 AM

At the risk of sounding ignorant (too late) what is line lock?

spike_africa 05-04-2005 09:19 AM

its a device that lets you lock the front brakes (or rear if your car is fwd) and keep the car form moving while burnout out. this makes it easyer on the brakes that are spinning because they dont have any pressure holding them. so there is less wear and its also easyer on your posi to not sit there and fight your brakes to keep spinning both tires.

a line lock or roll control is an electric solinoid that that plumbs into either the front or rear brakes when the solinoid is not engaged the valve is open allowing your breaking system to work as normal But if you press on the breaks and then hit the button to activate the line lock this closes the solinoid keeping the hydrolic preasure on in the system from the solinoid to the caliper or wheel cylinder, and then you can release the break pedal alowing the rest of the braking system to go back to 0 hydrolic preasure while maintaining preasure in the lines that the solinoid is plumbed into. when you want to releas the breaks just let you finger of the button and the solinoid will open this also alows for better burnouts cuase your not fighting the breaks. Its also good at a dragstrip with a sloped starting line so you can keep the car still and bring up the rpms

Blue03gt 05-10-2005 05:55 PM

i feather the clutch at 2grand ... anything higher or a dump and my rear wants to go sideways
