I'm 46 going on 17 according to my wife. I'd rather be young at heart than an old fart like my neighbors. They think I'm nuts with my garage full of tires stacked up and trapsing around the country racing my poor car. Screw them! I'd rather die than drive a freaking Dodge caravan. I make my kids squeeze into the back seat of the GT and I drive too fast also. But I have no accidents and no tickets in the last 28 years of driving so there's no need to change now.

Gears- 4.10 vs. 3.55's? Yes you will feel the difference. My car dropped 2 tenth's going from 3.73's to 4.30's. The common thinking is one tenth for every step in gears. So 3 tenths would be about your improvement.

to run that fast you need some sticky tires and at least LCA's and sub frame connectors. otherwise you will have the power like i do and wont go any faster then a 12.5 im trapping speeds in 114+ at 5800-5900 rpms thats good for a deep 11 second pass. these stupid 315/35 dr's suck when it comes to my car. i still have stock suspension besides pro kit springs and mach 1 shocks and struts. i wish i didnt have orders to korea because this summer would of been fun. hopefuly there are drag strips in germany.

edit when my car was n/a i picked up 2 tenths going to 373 and my 60ft dropped a tenth as well to 1.8. get 410s you will pick up some time with those.

I hear that my man!!!! I think its great when us older men sup up our Stangs!!!!! You just keep up the good work!!!! I've been accident free and ticket free for about 10 years!!!!!! I have 3:27s in my stang right now, so If I go up to 4:10s I should drop my 1/4 mile time by 4 tenths?????

Yes and no, if you have an automatic the gears will instantly improve your times with a manual alot of drivers actually slow down a little at first. It takes more skill to launch a manual with 4.10's than a automatic. Once they figure it out they go faster. My car had the stock convertor when I swapped the gears to 4.30's. With 275/15/50 Nitto Dr's I would actually bog a little off the line, no tire spin at all. I would run 13.50's all night long. When I droppped in the 3,500 stall PI convertor that all changed. When I hook it runs 12.80's-13 flat when I break loose it goes 13.10's to 13.40's. The statement about traction is true. Get Mickey Thompson dr's for the track and if it's a manual either don't spray out of the hole or beef up the rear and axles. If it's an automatic you are good to go.

here is the thread I posted last year when I dyno'd the blue beast.http://www.mustangboards.com/dyno-re...e-numbers.html
And a list of all the little crap that I do to coax my car into the 12's.
1/8 tank of gas
removed the dog bone, front sway bar, spare tire, jack, trunk insulation and front floor mats
Put on the Nitto's on Weld draglites, put on the 165/15 4" wide VW tires up front on weld draglites
flip on the race tune
drop the rears to 18 psi, pump up the fronts to 50 psi
set the struts to 1
pull the passenger side head light
pray for a tail wind.

I saw my name up there.. Dark side? Naw... I have a personal thing against nitrous in use by the common man but it's my personal belief not a universal reality of using nitrous. If you know what you're getting into, it's potentially a LOT of fun. Who knows.. there might be a 50 shot going into my 5.4L for those days when I really don't want to be around anyone.

I don't like to step up gearing too much with nitrous cuz I've seen a few people not used to it bounce off the rev limiter and harm their engine.

I'm going back to 3.73's when I spray it or maybe a 3.91. I thought about just running a 28" tire but my wife is starting to wonder if I'm dealing in stolen tires and wheels. There are 10 extra tires stacked in my cramped garage already.

don't I know that.. same thing.. cept' for me it's 6 tires and 3 sets of wheels, 3 motors and 2 suspensions. You'd think I was running Kragen out of my garage.

I like the 28" tire and nitrous idea... that'll help keep spin down to a minimum and you don't have to worry about the power with nitrous providing some added kick. The wife issue though... that's a problem not easily solved by flipping through the Summit catalog.
