Dodge charger

Has anybody went up againts the new charger, or saw what they run? Just wondering because a co worker of mine just got one, thanks.

They are pretty quick. I think I ran against one that ran a 13.5 at englishtown.

whitethunder46 03-19-2006 12:47 PM

I've been looking into them lately. I'm surprised how many models they're are. Two v6 models (both with 250HP) and like 3 or 4 V8 models. I'm sure with some work they can be mighty fast. But I don't think they're so much meant for 1/4 mile times, i mean, they have a 225/50?/18? tires on them, even the v8's. Thats not much tread for a powerful car, also they're heavy.

Stangdude27 03-19-2006 01:26 PM

For N/A the V-8 is pretty strong. Also most hardcore charger guys get the same aftermarket stuff we get for our cars. For heavy ass cars they are still pretty quick. But the Mustang will always prevail.

A stock 06' Charger pulled me pretty good on the interstate while I wasnt spraying. It was pretty fast for a big car....... I dont know how it would do in the 1/4 mile though..... Dont let their size fool you. Just like in the older cars they can still be quick...

On spray you will hand him his a$$...

GREG@94GT 03-20-2006 09:47 PM

what v8s are dodge puttin in them?

the 360s or 383s?

stanger00 03-20-2006 09:59 PM

on street fire i watched one of those special chargers pull a 360 hp and 380 tq on the dyno. it also had a 1/8th mile pass but i forgot the time.

They are heavy pigs but heavy pigs with a big motor. I think they are low 14's stock, easy mid 13's with a little work. They have a hemi that puts down around 345 hp and a bunch of torque. The SRT's get the 425 hp bored and stroked version along with some suspension goodies. The real problem with them besides weight is the computer that runs things in not real race compatable.
I believe they are around 4300 lbs. They are a good match for the 05 GTO or a stock 99-04 GT. I think that they don't take to mod's as well as the Fords do, I have spent some time at Mopar websites reading and Chrysler has tuned them pretty tight. From what I have read long tubes and cat back only made 3-5 hp increase, the factory stuff is pretty good.

Seen a brand new one out of the showroom run a 13.2 with nothing done to it...Still had the damn sticker on it!!!!!! Beware of them...they are fast!!!!!

Blue02GT 03-26-2006 05:50 PM

That's the SRT model and yes beware is right. My neighbor just bought one, killer looking car. He sold his BMW M5 to get it. I think he has too much money for his own good. He had 2 new M5's, a vert and a hardtop. That's alot of dough baby.

jeredan2003 03-27-2006 07:15 AM

I raced one and got beat. I think a better matchup would be Charger -vs- LS1.... They are faster than you think! A stock one should keep up with a bone stock Z28.....

cobra1923 03-27-2006 10:02 AM

I was watching Motor Week over the weekend and the tested the SRT-8 Charger (it has the 383 by the way) and they pulled 13.2s. However it was $43K as tested (with a $38K price). They couldn't shut up about how great it was, only complaint was very little feedback in steering wheel (but they did call it "nimble" for it's size. I guess it serves a purpose but that's pretty pricey. I guess it makes sense that they're the M5 owners that are picking them up.

Stangdude27 03-27-2006 11:39 AM

If your N/A fear it all day long but if you spray or are blown no worries. It just sucks you have to put so much work and money to get 12's!

Blue02GT 03-27-2006 06:38 PM

I fear no 4300 lb. sedan made by Chrysler, now there are a couple made by their parent company that I'd steer clear of. The non SRT Charger is a low 14 second car stock. I can completely fry the hides through first with a 2.2+ sixty foot and still run 13.50's so I'm not going to lose any sleep over them. There should be some at the track tomorrow I shall see if I can line up against them. There are usally a couple of Hemi magnum wagons with blingie wheels and smoked windows running slow times. The most fun is running and beating LS1's or c5 vettes.
The least fun is running a Z06 or a blown 5.0 that weighs 800 lbs less than mine.
I must get to work on my cams and the giggle gas so I can slay a few 03 Cobra's and Z06's.

GREG@94GT 03-27-2006 06:45 PM

M O P A R = most often passed(by fords:devil2: ) at racetrack

lmao...

but i didnt get an answer to my last question...

whats under the hood?
one of them new 345 hemis or
are they a 360, 318, or 383 in a hemi?

Blue02GT 03-27-2006 07:00 PM

The non SRT's ( Daytona's and whatever else they call them) have the standard 345 hp Hemi, I really don't know the displacement. The SRT's get the bigger brother 425 hp model. I know it's bored and stroked up to 6 liters. I wonder if one of those would squeeze into my GT's engine bay?
