4:10 and speedometer correction

Ok, so you guys have these speedometer recalibration jobbers for when you put new gears in yer car.
Problem is, they speficically say they are for 96-98 auto and 99-04 manual.
well. i got a 99-04 GT Auto. I dont see any that claim to work for a 99-04 auto. Whats the score here?

What do YOU guys sell that will get the speedometer back on track?

Lances03SVT 11-09-2005 02:30 PM

Can you say SCT Excal Tuner.

I can... the best ( after years of using preds)

Well thats pretty much what i was wondering. The speedometer kit is like, 100. The tuners all sit around 400. Obviously 100 is cheaper.
Then again, 400 will get it fixed plus add a few more ponys under the hood.

Well, it seems fairly obvious. I just need to get a tuner.

Is the SCT really that much better than diablo?

Yes it is.

Does anybody know the HP and Tq increase on the Dyno with the SCT on a non-added 4.6v8?

That depends where you live? My son is in Florida and he tells me that people swear by Diablo/Predator systems down there, You get on modulardepot forums and they swear by SCT up here in Colorado mostly everyone uses the Diablo/Pedator

i only gained about 5RWHP and 5RWTQ with the SCT tuner with a decent amount of exhaust work. BUT what it will help out a lot is it will firm up your shift points since u have an auto. i wasnt too picky about picking up more power, i wanted my shift points changed, and yes, SCT is a good way to go.

Samsstang 11-10-2005 09:53 AM

I truly believe if your gonna spend that much on a tuner! You might as well just get a dyno tune that can allow you to check and adjust A/F ratio, make speedometer adjustments, CEL light, etc; You will definetly extract the most power out of your car that way! handheld tuners are a great tool especially in the case of the Xcalibrator2 but most are very conservative. IMO

Only problem i see with thart is im sure it would void the **** outta my warranty, however, if i use a tuner i can set it back to stock before taking it in...

I have noticed what yer saying about the tuners too, im in colorado and everyone talks about diablo, i dont know anyone here with experience with SCT.

Thanks for the info. Actually, im about a 10 minuit drive from there. <rofl>
I'll have to check that out.

I did a dyno pull with all my mods and pulled at 235RWHP. After he played with the A/F and some other things it jumped to 240RWHP. Both runs were on 93octane. like i said, i was looking to firm up my shifts, any extra HP was a bonus. Slappy, I would use what ever tuner is popular in your area, that is what the guys with the dyno are used to using and have experience.

Shambles 11-11-2005 10:59 PM

You do realize that in order to get good gains in HP your timing has to be bumped up and you have to have a higher octane tune. 87/89 Octane does almost nothing for HP gains.

Heres your chart of stock HP gain.

You mean i might actually have to spend an extra 3 dollars when filling my tank going from 87 to 91 oc? (no 93 in mile high)<rofl> Ohhh... dunno if i can afford all that. <grin> acutally i used 91 oc ever since i bought the car, just started using 87 oc recently.

Im thinking about ordering the tuner any day now, but i wanna call that mile high dyno place and talk with them about it.

now i gotta find a decent place to get 4:10's installed. they have been sitting around far too long, im ready to get this started.

Problem is i cant even get my car out of the neighborhood right now, snow all packed down on the streets.
