I recently replaced my stock struts/shocks with Tokicko Blues. I also added UPR caster/camber plates as well as Nitto 255/45/17's all around. Now when I drive I hear a "thumping" noise coming from the front end when I go over bumps or road reflectors. I say thumping because a rattle noise is more of a metal sound. This is a thud sound. Any suggestions on how to fix/cure the problem?

 

I have a 96 cobra that making an odd noise from the driver side. I have researched here and checked the car out several times but Cannot find the source.

Will be working on this more over the next week or so as its driving me crazy.

 

It's your C/C plates. They are a spherical bearing design that is a lot more stable and doesn't bind like the rubber pieces but they do have a tendency (especially the ones that are average cost) to rattle. I had UPR and HPM and sold them both due to the rattle. I ended up with BBK, they are poly bushing design and don't rattle (though they do not operate as smooth as the bearing design). From what I've heard, QA1 and Maximum Motorsports bearing C/C plates don't rattle, but they cost more.

I have the koni Yellow two way externally adjustable shocks (were on the car when I got it), so I dont know the full history either. I can tell you that my Camber plate was loose at one point, not really loose but loose, so this probably didnt help any with the wear.

I am going to take it apart this week for inspection. With the amount of noise its making Im pretty certain things arent going to look ok.

Checking on the BBK ones now.

PS only one side is doing this btw, driver side.

 

I also want to add that this cobra does not have the stock Camber plate on it. Although they have no markings so I have no way to tell for sure, which ones they are. They are only one way adjustable front to rear.
