im lookin at gettin 3.73s for my 95 5speed gt and im gonna build a motor for it when i get some money (a 351w stroked to 408) and will the gears still be good for it when i do or will theybe to high then i think it be fine?
and when u buy these gears do you nned anyspecers or anything? i was gonna get the bearing and trac loc kit since my car has almost 200,000miles on it

The install kit will have everything you need for the rear. And with that many miles I would rebuild the posi for sure on the same note if you do not want to spend $100+ on the Tlok rebuilt kit they offer go to ebay and search 8.8 ford rebuild kit and you can get the regular ones for $40. Also optimal gearing depends on the car's setup and purpose. For a street car with a stroker I see no problem using 3.73's at all.

I like 3.27s. My '82 keeps up with newer foxes with 3.73s and 5 speeds, and I only have 3.27s and a 4 speed T170 with a 1:1 third gear. 3.73s just seem too short for a street car in my opinion. You're spending more time shifting and less time letting the engine just turn the wheels. 3.73 gears aren't going to give you faster 1/4 mile times over 3.08s etc. on otherwise the same setup. Just gear the car for your setup and mods and weight. If it sucks out of the hole (AOD with 2.73s) then give it 3.73s or somewhere in between but remember that when you shift into your second gear with 3.73s, the guy next to you with 3.27s is still in first which is overall a shorter ratio, so he pulls for a second, and so on. I say do 3.27s or if you already have those, them just stay put, but it's up to you. Shorter gears FEEL better and more fun, but they won't make your 1/4 mile times any faster unless you had like 2.21 gears to start with.

They will for sure make your 1/4 mile times faster, its a fact. My old f150 dropped almost 4tenths with a 3.08 to 4.10 swap. Why, because it was able to use the better gearing to accelerate faster and not bog out of the hole and use more then just 2 gears to get across the line.

I know two guys with stroked 351s making serious power and I believe both are running 4.10s with 5 speeds. Personally I'm not a huge fan of gear. My 87 has a 4.10 and I cant catch traction with the stock motor and have to shift way too much. I also dont like turning so many rpms on the highway.

My 92 GT had 3.73s when I got it and that was still more shifting than I liked for a daily driver but a good enough tradeoff. If you are going to be putting down all kinds of torque and horsepower though I'd look at 3.27-3.55

With a 408 I'd be thinking more about what kind of beefed up axles and diff I would need. Also some C clip eliminators or 9" ends

4.10's was alot of shifting, but if i had to do it over again, id do the same thing. But, if it's your DD, do 3.73's.
