Worth boring out?
 

I got a stock 302 and i was looking at getting another 302 block (because its my daily driver right now)
i've heard mixed reviews between boring it to a 331 vs 347
also im a little hesistant on boring it after hearing the words "overheating" "increased oil consumption" and "rods rubbing and need modification to the block for clearance"
now i was thinking about (if possible) a 302 stroker, but i have no idea how much power that would be able to produce

any suggestions?

You can't stroke a 302 and still have the same displacement so the last one doesn't work. But anyhow lots of people run 331's and 347 strokers its not a big deal for a machine shop to clearance the block for the longer stroke (they grind away parts of the black that get in the way, its not much) and set that up for you. If your super worried you can always go with the tried and true 306.

The over sized bore for building a 331 or 347 is the same +.030. The crank makes up the difference in cubic inches. I have a 347. When I had my block prep'd the machine shop cut the notch required in the bottom of each sleeve. Not a major job at all. As a matter of fact when I did the build I had to grind a little more off to make sure I had adequate rod to cylindar wall clearance. Now concering oil consumption, this has been thrown around for a long time. The pistons that I used (Probe forged) does have the wriist pin intruding into the oil ring. However, the rings that I got (Perfect Circle) have an additional ring that creates a land for the oil rings. Oil consumption is not a problem (at lase on my engine). Overheating? Yes I did have an overheating problem. However, I ultametly found the problew was with my head/intake combination. I finally went to Edelbrock Victor Jr. heads and intake. This baby now runs at 165 degrees all day. (I do have a high volume water pump, aluminum 2 core radiator and a Flexlite fan). Enjoy the 347 and reap the benefits of a troquey and high reving SBF.
