its more important that you dont squeeze the gasket out and create a leak.

remember, it's Inch Pounds, not Foot Pounds....... it's like 5 ft/lbs..

A nice trick to keep them in place is to spray the valve cover edge with gasket adhesive or even general trim adhesive and set the gasket on it properly... drop a couple of bolts through the bolt holes to hold it while it dries. Then put them on.. that makes pulling the Valve covers on and off easier and the gasket stays put
