Mustang idle problem

Hello all, I am new here. I didn't know there was a forum for just mustangs. Yippy. I have a stupid problem and I hope someone can help. I have a 1995 Mustang GT. It has a brand new engine, heads, cam and all that stuff, but the problem I am going to mention was happening before all of the new stuff. I was kinda hoping the new engine and stuff would get rid of it but it didn't. Here is the problem. When I first start the car, normally it runs fine. After it is hot, or normal operation tempature, sometimes when I start it, the idle surges, from about 800 - 1300 rmps, then it will stall. I can start it right back up, it surges up to about 1300 then stalls. Over and over again. If I start it and wack the gas it will stay alive and idle normal again. I know there has to be someone else that has suffered from this. Any help? Please? :help:

Lets See.................. What kind of cam did you put in the car, is it a big change?? the cam might be causing the problem, what engine did you install, also did you mess with the throttle positioning sensor? you might have to turn up your idle on the sensor so it wont stall, or you could have a bad positioning sensor when i had a bad sensor sort of the same thing would happen except sometimes the idle would just keep going up or it would go down and i would stall, get back to me and i will do the best i can to help you out!!! see ya

Well the problem was happening before the cam, so I know it isn't that. The TPS is fine(per specs), the car is iding at about between 800-900rpms, if I set it any lower with the cam I have, it stalls. I had to clean the hell out of the IAC just to get the car to stay running. Maybe I should change that? I am going to check for my fuel pressure for a few days to see if it only starts to do this stalling number when there is a problem with the fuel pressure. Let me know if you hear anything. Thanks.

Change the IAC and see if it helps. Can't hurt to check for vacuum leaks either. Get a can of carb cleaner and spray it around your vacuum connections, if the idle changes, you have a leak.

Thanks, I have already checked for vacuum leaks, thats not it. I guess I will try changing the IAC, that sucker is $60.00. I am going to check my fuel pressure for a couple of days as well to see where it is when the surging/dying occurs.

Changed the IAC, seems to be working fine now. :toothy10:
