7.5 or 8.8
how do i know if i have a 7.5 or 8.8 rear when i bought the car the differential it had was from a 93 4banger so i bought a new differential and i got it off of an 82 so i can have posi but the mustang i got it off was modified so i dont know if i have the original 7.5 or an 8.8 how do i find out

look at the pumpkin, the 8.8" is more round or. . octigonal (sp) while the 7.5" has flat tops.
Go to google images and serch for ford 7.5" and ford 8.8" and compare them. |

snaped some quick pics see i you can tell me what size it is

see that little metal tag on the bottom left of the pumpkin.. that'll tell you. If you see two 8's next to each other, it's an 8.8. If not, it's a 7.5.

BTW... It looks to me like you have a 7.5" judging by the position of the cover bolts. Bummer. You should be able to find a 8.8 at a pick and pull pretty cheap and I'd do that and build it with the parts you want instead of dikking with a 7.5". The 7.5 isn't strong enough to put any real abuse into.
Edit: Confirmed. That's a 7.5. |
yup. see how the top three bolts are all alligned? its a 7.5" without a doubt.
