windsor was built in canada. windsor ftw!

Windsor for the win my a**! Cleveland all the way. Windsor are a good light modding engine but the Clevelands were tanks. You'll be able to pull more from the Cleveland with less cost than you could from the Windsor anyday. It takes a to to build up the Windsor. Go Cleveland! Eh?

I was always told the clevland was the TQ monster and stronger made but the 79 windsor that i would was pretty damn thick and would have taken a beating...i sold it and bought a crate motor instead for my 95 GT.

truthfully i have heard that the cleveland was a better all around motor. im just reppin canada....

the cleveland is better, and harder to kill than a windsor. if i remember right a 351 cleveland is basically a 400modified (bore i think was smaller = thicker block if i remember correctly)

just go with a cleveland you wont be disappointed

Stock for stock the Cleveland is better, but the Windsor has a better aftermarket...

The reason the Windsor has a better aftermarket is two fold. First it's a much more common engine so availability is better. Second while the Cleveland is a legendary name it has a weak bottom end. Parts breakage is high, parts are expensive, etc.

Can you make more power with a Cleveland, probably. Can you make the same power with a Windsor for a lower price along with better reliability, absolutley.

One more thing. Windsors are an easier fit when doing an engine swap. The Cleveland top end is huge. posted by

The Cleveland is a 400 block that has been "de-stroked" to a 351 due to the .5" shorter stroke.

buy a windsor...

better engine... stronger... better choice for after market parts..

I say Cleveland FTW!!

Pops had a 351C in his 69 Mach and will swear by it. Greg has a good point with the fact that the aftermarket supports the Windsor more and it is an easy fit into a Fox. Does the shorter stroke of the Cleveland allow it to rev faster (like the destroked 302 Boss and Chevy motor?)

yah... shorter stroke = higher redline

but it also depends on how strong the internals are and how fast the oil pumps and gas and air can get into the engine etc...

351W and 351C have the same displacement... except...

351C has larger bore and shorter stroke
351W has shorter bore longer stroke...

and the longer the stroke the more torque...

don't forget about the venerable clevor (cleveland top on a windsor bottom). It's a lot more common than you might think and it's a helluva powerful mill when done nicely.

Cleveland heads are the best part, they flow really nicely and the chambers are similar to twisted wedge designs.

Back in the day they used to have a name for this combo, it was called the Boss302 and Boss351 and they were totally boss.

i think the cleveland is a 4 bolt main, not sure about the windsor tho
