Default Spare Key

Im in need of a spare key. Went to Ford they have them made for $40.00 + an hour of labor to program the chip in the key for ignition.:wallbash: Anyone know how to program the key with chip.

Trying to save a couple of bucks for new clutch.

Thanks

i ended up going to a locksmith or whatever that does electronic keys and such and they cut the key for me and just slipped the transponder (chip) in to the top of the key (their is a lil piece of the plastic that will open but its reallyhard to open) also their are only a handful of different transponders, i think they go by voltage or somthing. give some places a call and see what they tell ya in your area

i think i paid like 35 or somthin

what year car? there are 2 different PATS keys now, the older ones you can do yourself but alot of the newer ones (@2002 up) wth the "jeweled pats key" have to-go to the dealer to have done

I have an 04 and you can do it at home, read your manual. page 62..It says you must have TWO programed keys that work for your vechicle, if you don't have two then you must go to the dealer. The instructions are online at ford.com, just download the owner's manual for your car.

If you have your book, it's in there. Mines page 62. If not go to www.genuineservice.com and click on glovebox manuals

I know this is a little bit dated but I just lost my key, the only one I ever had for the vehicle. Someone said that there are 2 PATS key set ups, if I have a 2000 Mustang GT would mine be the kind a locksmith could do? And how much would I be looking at if I live in upstate NY?

they cut them ware i work and if ur getting it for 40 buck dam that is a good deal. they have a machine that transfers the info from ur key to the other one. if u dont want to spend the money u can get one with out the chip in it for about 3 bucks and it will just open the door incase u lock ur keys in the car. hope that helps.

wow...ford is cheaping out if theyre only giving one key out for new cars...i have 2 keys with 2 remotes...hmmmmm

as far as getting a new key...you will have to go to ford probably cause you dont have any keys or chips for your car...you will have to get a new key and buy a chip for your car directly from ford.

I spoke to Ford near me yesterday and they told me that it'll cost $35 just for the key and another $50 to program it... $85 total isn't too bad...
