We'll most likely have to wait until they are too old or gone before the next generation tries something different. I honestly don't see what's wrong with a little trial and error. They can't possibly fug the system up anymore than it is. Try a playoff, if they really lose that much money (which I doubt), then they can always switch back. I don't believe in the "regular season being a playoff" argument. If they switch to a playoff, it's not like losses become unimportant. You can't just go through the motions and expect to make the playoffs. Every game will determine whether you get a shot and better regular season teams will be rewarded with a higher seeding. actually if they leave the bowl system intact with a playoff it will actually be more money for the schools that win.
you get a certain dollar amount for making the playoffs, then you get money for each playoff game you win for your school, and so on and so forth.
