Okay Dan here's the scoop.
#1 - MMFF ran a 14.00 flat with a 02 with about 2,000 miles on it bone stock. This was by dropping the tire pressure, removing the front sway bar and pulling everything out of the trunk. They removed the silencer and pulled the left front headlight. The editor who did this can flat drive like a fool, most guys would be lucky to hit 14.3's in a stone stock 99-04 2v.
#2 - Short shifting has nothing to do with powershifting. Short shift means shifting too early as in 5,400 rpm. With a stock or near stock 2v PI motor you should shift about 5,800 1-2 and 5,600 2-3 & 3-4.
#3 - Matt has 3.90 gears which are much better than the stockers.
#4. I'm just trying to help you so don't cop an attitude. You asked what you need to do, if are too lazy than keep getting beat by Honda's and Buicks.
#5. I have done all of these things and they do work. I have the sway bar and spoiler off permenantly so it's not a big deal. The back seat comes out with 7 bolts and 10 minutes time. I can send instructions on how to do this if you want to try it sometime.
Most of all get lot's of practice in at the track and you will improve. Most people start by running high 14's to low 15's. When I first took my 02 to the track I had not raced in over 25 years. I could get no better than a 14.3 with an automatic, it took some time to figure out what I could and could not do with this car.
