Yeah, I did a little research and it appeared that overflowing with oil is the way it is supposed to be done.
They initially thought that the splattering came purge ontop of the axle. They believed some material built up in it and temperature increased leading to a burst of oil...but it seems to be continuous.
When I first brought in my car, the rear end cover was entirely cover by oil/dirt (you couldn't tell it was a SVO cap), but there wasn't any oil splattering.
I brought the car back in last night, they'll look into it today. Could this be a seal? The splattering probably comes from the driving and the air rushing under the car, so this could simply be a leak, there was just so much oil everywhere that it was difficult to pinpoint it.
I'll post the mecanics diagnostic later today.
